Whiteaker Bond Construction Update!

Thanks to voters in Salem and Keizer, Whiteaker will be receiving upgrades next year!

In May 2018, voters approved a $619.7 million bond to fund improvements all across the school district.

Highlights of the projects happening for Whiteaker include roofing improvements, repurposing one general classroom into a science lab, a gym floor replacement and improvements to the front office space to increase visibility and control of the front entry. Just over $2.1 million will be invested in improvements at Whiteaker!

At the end of last school year, a team of representatives from Whiteaker met with district Construction Services staff to make plans that include design decisions. Whiteaker staff contributed important perspectives on the needs of students and the school.

BBT Architects has been hired to create the drawings that a construction team will use to remodel the selected spaces.

Construction is planned to start at the end of this school year (June 2020) and is expected to be completed over the summer.

Thanks to the community’s support of the 2018 bond, Whiteaker will soon have more space for science education opportunities and a safer learning environment for our students!

Volunteer Opportunity November 9, 9 am to noon

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!

The Claggett Creek Watershed Council will be our first volunteer project of the year. Last year, many Keizer area students and families helped plant the Keizer Rotary Arboretum in honor of Wilbur Blum. This year we are looking to do a little maintenance by sprucing up the tree bases, replacing a few trees and preparing the area for winter.

We will be meeting at the arboretum at 9 am on November 9, 2019.

The arboretum is located in Keizer Rapids Park near the east border of the park, starting from the Willamette River and running primarily north.  https://keizerrotary.org/arboretum/

Bring shovels, rakes, gloves and closed toe shoes.

Dress for the weather.  All are welcome!

Collin Kartchner Links

On Friday, October 18, our students were treated to an assembly with TedX speaker and youth advocate Collin Kartchner.

We have attached a link to his Ted Talk and his website where you can learn more about whether flip phones can end our social media addiction.
