Thanks to voters in Salem and Keizer, Whiteaker will be receiving upgrades next year!
In May 2018, voters approved a $619.7 million bond to fund improvements all across the school district.
Highlights of the projects happening for Whiteaker include roofing improvements, repurposing one general classroom into a science lab, a gym floor replacement and improvements to the front office space to increase visibility and control of the front entry. Just over $2.1 million will be invested in improvements at Whiteaker!
At the end of last school year, a team of representatives from Whiteaker met with district Construction Services staff to make plans that include design decisions. Whiteaker staff contributed important perspectives on the needs of students and the school.
BBT Architects has been hired to create the drawings that a construction team will use to remodel the selected spaces.
Construction is planned to start at the end of this school year (June 2020) and is expected to be completed over the summer.
Thanks to the community’s support of the 2018 bond, Whiteaker will soon have more space for science education opportunities and a safer learning environment for our students!
